Happy Good Friday!
“When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to Him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.” – 1 Peter 2:23-24
I’m posting later than usual today, I guess. Here are some Some Simmer Starters for you from this week…
Hello. I am an Idol. (ScribblePreach) – “Don’t be afraid, it’s just me. I notice you’re turned off by my name: “Idol”. It’s okay. I get that a lot. But allow me to re-label myself: I’m your family. Your bank account. Your sex life. The people who accept you. Your career. Your self-image. Your ideal spouse. Your law-keeping. I am whatever you want me to be.”
Should Mom-and-Pops That Quietly Oppose Gay Marriage Be Destroyed? (Conor Friedersdorf at The Atlantic) – Fantastic article about this currently-running and obnoxious controversy. Even if I disagree with the author’s personal stance on gay marriage, his thoughts about this issue are fantastic and I agree so much.
The Spiritual Stages of a Believer’s Life (Nicholas T. Batzig) – Very interesting contemplations here on the passage in 1 John that says, “I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one…”
Selling & Social Media – DON’T be a Personal Space Invader (Kristen Lamb) – I like her stance on using social media for self-promotion! Good tips and thoughts here.
Are You Tone Deaf? (David Farland) – A good article talking about some errors of tone that writers commit.
I love to hear your thoughts!
