Blog readers,
I mentioned in my last post that my daughter was having increasing neurological issues. Since then we have taken her for an MRI, and she was diagnosed with an arteriovenous fistula – a malformation of blood vessels (right over her brain stem) that is swelling and pressing on her whole brain.
We took her to the hospital again for an angiogram to determine the next course of action, and it was discovered that the formation of her AVF is very unusual. Normal methods of fixing it will not work. Her doctor is known as the best in the nation for handling AVFs, but he says he has never seen one like hers.
Monday morning she will undergo a risky procedure to treat it that has never been done before. If all goes well, she will be in the ICU for two weeks, but the chances of losing her on Monday or the days following are high.
