About Me

IMG_2378Hi!  My name is Bethany Jennings, and I’m a YA science-fiction and fantasy author and freelance editor.

All my life I have been a person of words.

My mom likes to say that when I was small, I talked nonstop, all my waking hours. But after I learned to read, I stopped talking so much because I satisfied my joy of words with books – first in reading them, and then in writing new ones.

I believe words have power. They can create worlds, or destroy hearts. They can bring about reconciliation, or set bridges ablaze. All of life is a war waged with words.

And when you build words together into a story, you create a weapon with the power to pierce hearts and transform cultures.

I love to read and write about tenacious heroes that drive us to greater courage, moments of breathtaking beauty that remind us of goodness and delight, gifted ones rising who stir us to serve the world with our own gifts.  I write about daring rebels and desperate sacrifice.  I write about disaster and triumph.  I write about love.  I write about leaning into the pain and fighting the good fight, even when it hurts, even when all you can do is trust and take blind steps into the darkness.

My mind is teeming with fictional souls demanding that their stories be told, and worlds I’m desperate to share with the real world around me.

Please, come in! – make yourself comfortable – and let me tell you a story. 🙂

More About Me

I grew up in sunny California and was transplanted to snowy New England in my teens, where I live happily with my handsome, fair-haired husband and a tiny army of exuberant little ones, ages 6, 5, 3, and 2 (yes, more often than not, I do have to choose between writing and sleep!). I created and host the popular online writers’ event, #WIPjoy, and in addition to creating and destroying constructions of words, I also love owls, the color purple, music, composing and songwriting, and inventing (and eating) delicious sandwiches. Beyond and above all else, I am a sinner redeemed by the blood of a perfect Savior, Jesus Christ, running my race for the glory of my King.
